SOS for Indio-Maiz Biological Reserve

As part of the launching of the campaign “Lets save Indio Maiz Biological Reserve: the lung of Central America” from the 1st to the 6th of June there is going to be a press conference with a delegation of 10 people who are currently in the capital to raise awareness of the current construction in the protected area. On Tuesday approximately 40 media outlets attended a press conference where the launch of the campaign was made official and later on the delegation visited radio and TV channels. This tour will finish on Friday when the delegation will be part of the Earth fair.

Additionally, there have been some appointments booked to talk about this issue and seek support from organizations interested in conversation of the reserve. During this tour we also plan to talk about the situation in the national assembly and in the institutions that are in charge of protecting this area.

In the delegation that is all over Managua there are representatives from the territorial government Rama-Kriol, the union of environmental organizations of El Castillo, integrated by the association of cacao producers (Cooprocafuc R.L. y Cosemucrim R.L.), the sustainable tourism association (Coopeturs R.L.), Red Municipal de los Comité de Agua Potable y Saneamiento de El Castillo, and the non-profit organization Fundacion del Rio.
