State projects in the reserve
The Mayor’s Office of El Castillo has already started construction of trails that go towards the heart of Indio-Maíz, in the sector known as San José de las Brisas.
This action is one of several carried out by the city hall that undermines the protection of the reserve.
The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA) is complicit in the destruction since knowing the problem, they don’t act and rather protect the offenders.
On the other hand we find the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health promoting the construction of public infrastructure and with it the arrival of more and more settlers who see in these actions an endorsement to continue invading.
The Government Institutions? Their inactions speak louder than their words!
The institutional abandonment of these protected areas has caused them to disappear or suffer serious effects that endanger the lives of these natural assets.
The protection and conservation of the natural heritage of Nicaragua should be a priority for the country and in particular for the Government of the Republic.
However, the reality is totally different and we see that public institutions, by action or omission, have become promoters of the destruction of the Indio-Maíz Reserve.
